@nerminacpa: The difference between a local contract and a travel contract is not just the paycheck. It is the structure behind it. A travel nurse working away from a real, documented home base qualifies for tax-free stipends. Those stipends cover housing and meals on the road. The IRS does not count them as wages. So they are never taxed. That is not a loophole. It is how travel healthcare pay is designed to work. But it only works when three things are true. - The assignment is far enough from home that staying away is genuinely required. - The tax home is real and documented. - And the duplicate expenses: paying for home while also paying for housing on assignment, are actually happening. When all three line up, she keeps every dollar of those stipends. When they do not, it all gets taxed like regular income. 📌 Share this for any travel nurse who has ever wondered why the pay structure looks the way it does. Comment COURSE to join the Stipend-Safe waitlist, the framework I built so travel nurses and PTs understand exactly how to set this up and keep it protected. $2,500 isn’t much especially when you’re having to pay to keep your tax home AND pay to live. I did travel nursing for years. It’s not financially responsible currently.

travel tax agent at traveltaxusa told me “you can maintain your tax home while you are traveling through work or duplication of housing expenses – you don’t have to do both. For the work method, your fully taxed work must “frame” your travel assignments every 12 months – fully taxed work before and after traveling.”. why does no one ever mention this? that we dont necessarily have to pay rent since the irs only looks at maintaining “tax home” which can be made with 3 months of working in our home tax area a year?? it gets me nervous that im wrong but the travel tax agent specifically told me this and we verified through irs website. but no one mentions it so i get nervous

Your stipends are worth about $8 in actual cash so you just need to evaluate if fully taxed is worth it because sometimes it is
