@courageunlocked: Teachers aren't leaving the profession because of pay. They're leaving because the SYSTEM is antiquated. We're still running schools like it's 1950 — same rigid schedules, same mountain of paperwork, same standardized tests, same expectation that teachers just absorb more and more with less and less. Meanwhile the world moved on. Parents work from home. Businesses went remote. People build whole careers from their phones. And teachers are still asking permission to use the bathroom. I spent 18 years inside that system as a teacher and a school counselor. I loved my students — but I couldn't keep pouring into a system that refuses to evolve. So I built my own way out. I learned how to earn online, on my schedule, from my phone — and for the first time in my career, I actually have time for my own kids. Teachers — tell me I'm wrong. Or drop a 🙋♀️ if you know exactly what I mean. And if you want to see what I did next, comment READY. #teacherlife #teachertired #workfromhomemom #digitalmarketingforbeginners #burntoutteacher

They went in bc you have the following holidays off: Fall break, Thanksgiving, two weeks at Christmas, Spring break and summers off. Don’t matter if it’s paid or not. It’s time off.what other profession gets that much time?

I remember being in school and thinking why in the world do we need to know this?!? Like geometry, foreign language, chemistry… I’m now 31 and I look back and wish we would have learned actual skills. ANY life skill… the education system needs to stop wasting everyone’s time with the thing they teach.. I know people don’t want to hear it but it’s true..

I’m lost. How else would they learn if they aren’t sitting in class in front of a teacher all day?

My sister became a teacher because she wanted her summers off and she wanted all the major holidays off a week or more at Christmas, etc., and a good picture

It’s a little bit of everything! I left in the middle of last school year, it’s definitely a systemic issue for sure!

I really feel like we are moving backwards with education. The things I complained about as a teen are similar to what my teen children are saying. Almost nothing real word is being taught. For example, balancing and managing checking accounts, building maintaining credit score.. tax’s - retirement. These are a few that come to mind.

Instead of being taught how to be the best in their class, children need to be taught how build a society where all children are connected to one another. Not competitive learning. No need to compete when the corona virus showed us the world is interconnected and interdependent, understand that reality dictates that we unite and work together. Consistent building of a society with global thinking will make each of us develop an inclusive perception of the world. Instead of “me” or “them”, we begin to see reality as “we” or “all of us”. We will shift from wanting personal gratification to wanting gratification for the general populace. Our viewpoints will expand from personal to collective, and new insights will evoke within us. “Multiplicity is only apparent. In truth, there is only one mind”.

There are so many problems in education. I’ve taught for more than 30 years and everything right now is attacking teachers. And the pay is a reason people leave. I literally have two other side jobs to make and meet.

That’s not true teachers have to teach a certain way now for testing back in the 30s. The kids were there just to learn.

teacher here, I can understand why you get a lot of hate in your comments... there's a lot to unravel in what you said but at least where I'm at, we are not teaching like we were 50 years ago.. students aren't making the effort they were 50 years ago because we've lowered our standards and that's why teachers are leaving. we have such low standards and low benchmarks for the kids that they don't even have to make much of an effort to pass and when they figure out they can do nothing, that's what they do. and when they do nothing teachers have a difficult time justifying giving them grades because it literally takes more work to show what the teacher is doing to bring grades up than it does to actually teach the class. teachers are quitting because of poor morale and poor leadership.
