I mean the original trilogy is a condemnation of the US and its involvement in Vietnam, and is an allegoric statement on imperialism as a whole, so I don't understand how people can dispute anything you said

It truly is what makes the prequels a tragedy. Even if Palpatine had been just a slimy politician and Dooku an idealist driven too far, the Republic had been rotted from within. The legitimate neglect of the outer rim and even mid rim is coopted by the various corporations and tech unions that made the separatist leadership. On the republic's side, the various weapon manufacturers like Kuat and Corellian sure were happy to give the chancellor all the power he wanted to prosecute a war with no seeming end and in need of thousands if not millions of spacecraft nevermind how the republic responded to Umbara trying not to be a strip mining asset like the real life Democratic Republic or Congo. 😬

Anyone who doesn’t think Lucas had the intention of making these allegories … didn’t pay attention to things Lucas said about the meta story. These ideas may not have been from his literal pen, but they are in perfect alignment with what he did write and intend, and are just extensions of it.

One of my favorite things about the Star Wars universe built by the books, films, shows etc. is that much of that corruption already existed in the Republic, it was just ignored. The Republic had been declining into the empire for some time. The environment ended up being perfect for someone like palpatine to seize their opportunity.

Say what you want about the prequels, but they actually followed the core identity of the original series, which was a criticism of imperialism and authoritarianism with the prequels as how a democracy can become such an imperialist monster. The new era meanwhile is the equivalent of Metallica going on stage and saying "We are not political"
