You’ve heard of endometriosis. But what about endometritis? They sound similar, but they are different conditions. Chronic endometritis is persistent inflammation of the endometrium, the lining inside your uterus. Endometriosis involves tissue similar to the uterine lining growing outside the uterus. Some women with chronic endometritis experience spotting, irregular bleeding or pelvic discomfort. Others have no obvious symptoms. So why does it come up in fertility investigations? Chronic endometritis has been associated with recurrent pregnancy loss and repeated unsuccessful embryo transfers. That doesn’t mean it explains every loss or unsuccessful transfer, or that finding it proves it was the cause. A routine ultrasound cannot reliably rule it out. Diagnosis generally involves an endometrial biopsy to look for plasma cells, often using a stain called CD138. But testing has limitations. Diagnostic thresholds vary, and evidence about who benefits most from investigation and treatment is still developing. It isn’t a test everyone trying to conceive needs. In selected cases, particularly after repeated unsuccessful transfers, it may be worth discussing with your fertility specialist. This is why fertility assessment needs to consider more than ovulation and egg development. The uterine environment, sperm factors, embryo development and your medical history all matter. Mel is our Senior Fertility Naturopath at Nourishing Apothecary, supporting women and couples with complex fertility concerns, endometriosis and IVF preparation alongside their medical team. Book with Mel or start with our free Find the Right Practitioner discovery call. Consultations are available in Liverpool, Sydney and Australia wide via Zoom. www.nourishingapothecary.com #ChronicEndometritis #Endometritis #IVFSupport #FertilityHealth #NourishingApothecary
