Martha Zeledón :
What a great topic! I married quite young and have three children: two daughters—both professionals, married, and leading stable, successful lives (one in France, the other in the U.S.)—and a son, who is also married (no children yet) and works as a surgeon in the U.S. My son once told me, "Mom, it was only through your example and your love that I was able to overcome difficult times"—such as when he was preparing for his medical licensing exams, which he managed to pass in just eight months. I even encouraged my daughter-in-law—who is also a doctor; she calls herself my "adopted daughter," haha! I made sure they didn't focus solely on material things, but also on the spiritual side, teaching them through my own example of personal growth. We love each other; I serve as their role model, and I always encourage them to keep moving forward. I never told them what to do or what to study; instead, I took a more inductive approach, encouraging them to reason things out for themselves. They made their own choices, and they are grateful for that. That is the greatest gift life has given me. I also never instilled in them any negative feelings toward people who may have hurt me. Now, when they ask for my opinion, our conversations revolve around their future projects and similar topics. And the love that has extended beyond our immediate circle—it’s truly beautiful. I am incredibly happy to have the family I have. And yes, Doctor, I agree with everything you’ve said. It’s a great benchmark.
