@chrispickettrealestate: An exclusive, members-only club is taking over city-owned land in Santa Monica. The Victorian, a popular restaurant and nightclub on Main Street, is closing on October 31st after a 20-year run. The city council approved transferring the lease to a company called the Santamonican Club. Plans show they want to build a private wellness facility with a pool, spa, fitness center, and restaurant. But here's where it gets interesting. Public records show the new company was filed just 1 month before the vote and is registered to a current Victorian partner. So instead of an outside takeover, the lease is transferring to a new company run by someone already managing the property. What does this mean if you aren't a member? The club must reserve up to 20% of its capacity for free memberships for qualifying Santa Monica residents. Plus, the 25 public parking spaces must stay open to everyone, and the operator is required to keep accommodating the Sunday Farmers Market. The remodel is expected to take 12 to 18 months once construction begins.
