I’m about to hit you hard with a truth. Will the house you love give you the life you hate?? Nobody wants to ask that while standing in their dream kitchen. But if you’re moving to Phoenix, Arizona, ask it before you make an offer. Because you can change the countertops. Moving the house closer to work is going to be the challenging part. Picture this: You got the extra bedroom. The pool. The pantry you could practically host Thanksgiving in. But now you’re watching the clock in traffic, wondering if you’ll make daycare pickup. Your favorite school means another daily drive you hadn’t planned for. And the friends you moved here to be closer to? Getting together requires a calendar invite and a packed lunch. Suddenly, “we’ll get used to the drive” is doing a LOT of heavy lifting. Before you fall in love with the house, do these four things first: ✅ Test your actual commute. Drive it when you’d leave for work AND come home. Sunday’s house-hunting trip doesn’t tell you what Tuesday feels like. ✅ Figure out the school routine. Confirm the address’s assigned schools. If you’re considering open enrollment, verify availability and transportation directly. Don’t build your morning around an assumption. ✅ Price the life that comes with it. The mortgage, utilities, HOA, pool care and maintenance. Ask for available utility history, knowing your usage may differ. ✅ Map your regular stops. Daycare. The elementary school. Groceries. Your gym. The people you want to see. Would you still choose that address with all those trips on the calendar? I’m a Gilbert mom of two who grew up in Chandler and has lived all over this Valley. When we talk about your move, I want to hear about your work hours and school pickup before we start swooning over crown-molding or marble islands. You deserve a house you love coming home to, with enough time and money left to enjoy it. If a move to Arizona is in the cards, comment AZ BOUND and I’ll send you my Moving to Arizona guide to Phoenix’s East Valley. You don’t have to do this alone.
