@alexisanddean: Replying to @B Gifting stocks to Trump accounts. Is this safe? Is this dumping “losing stocks” as a tax loophole? #trumpaccounts #susandell #financialliteracy #investing #stocktok

Will that free stock be considered a gift in the government eyes and have to pay taxes on the free stock?

It also makes zero sense that it would hurt the person on the receiving end. They didn’t pay anything for it! They can’t “lose” lol.

They can change the investment guidelines at any time, whether outright or by appointing a rigged “board” to do so. It’s a long game scheme of some kind. Do not put one dime of your own money into it!

If you gift overpriced stocks you claim full value of tax deductions. He’s looking at it wrong.

I disagree that this can’t be taken advantage of. If a stock is sold, then there’s a loss on it, but you don’t have the stock anymore. If they gift it to a family member at current market price that’s below what they paid, they can claim the loss, but when the stock goes back up, the money is still in the family. That absolutely is taking advantage of the system

If you’re dumping a losing stock into that account, you can’t expect that account is gonna have much growth over your kids childhood??

What about companies (let's say AI) locking up a large portion of their shares from being sold for 5 years to prop-up/extend the AI market on IPO?

But giving free stock is 100% tax deductible or no? and I don’t believe you get to write off a loss from the stock market from losing value,? Just like you don’t get taxed on growth until you sell. ? Yet you can get loans on it. So having stock that’s worth nothing isn’t worth keeping so why not get the tax credit of gifting it away? And what price do you get if you give the stock away the price that you paid or the current value?

The difference is the stock can't be sold, and companies can target specfic local areas. This could incentivise the recipient's parents to support the company when they might not otherwise, if for example the company is seeking to change local zoning ordinances to develop in their locality.

same thing people say rich people give to charity for the tax write off…it’s still giving some form of monetary value to charity. There are not benefiting more by giving stuff away vs keeping it.

losses and donations are different write-off. schedule a vs schedule d. both have different caps and your answer is disingenuous. the schedule D 60%of your average AGI is alot more than the 3000 cap on your schedule A. It's a golden parachute.
