Wrong info.
Cell towers cannot reach a phone flying at 33,000 feet because the antennas point horizontally and slightly downward.

This is false. Cell towers never search for signals above them. It covers ground like an umbrella. This is why you don’t have signal on plane even flying over a city. When your phone looking for signal it sends for strong pulses to find a tower and this can create noise on radio signals and very low chance it can interrupt communication

Airplane mode is mostly just so your phone doesn't burn through your battery searching for a signal. If you've ever had no signal, you will know your phone battery drains way faster and it gets hotter.

Yeah that's not really the reason. airlines lobby to keep it that way so they can make more money off of selling you its data at 10,000 times the cost

As someone who flew private a lot with the cell phone on, above 10k feet the cell signal drops and all it does is drain your battery. Cell towers are pointed horizontally and down, not up.

As a pilot there is a a lot more interference and noise in the 1930s ATC radio communications we currently use than any interference from a cell phones

Planes act as a Faraday cage so airplane mode really isn't even needed.
