@24ghanta_nepal: Tribhuvan University requires 80% attendance in many of its programmes, and students who fail to meet the requirement can face restrictions on appearing in final examinations. In some TU programmes, attendance also forms part of internal assessment. For example, TU documents show attendance can carry marks in internal evaluation, while the university also has provisions allowing students with at least 70% attendance in certain justified cases to sit for exams with supporting documents. But there is another side to the attendance debate. If students are required to attend classes regularly, should teachers and colleges also be accountable for ensuring those classes are actually conducted? Students sometimes report situations where certain teachers do not take scheduled classes regularly, cover large parts of the syllabus close to examinations, or leave students to study unfinished portions on their own. This should not be taken as a claim about all teachers. Many teachers regularly conduct their classes and fulfil their responsibilities. TU's own academic documents show that attendance, internal assessment and course teaching are linked, and some programs specifically require institutions to document practical marks and attendance. There is also a different reality for many students in government colleges. Some students work full time to support themselves and their families while studying. For them, strict attendance rules can create a difficult balance. At the same time, attendance requirements exist for a reason: regular participation can improve learning and prevent students from treating college as optional. So, the question should not be students versus teachers. It should be about accountability on both sides. If a student is expected to attend 80% of classes, should colleges also clearly track how many classes were scheduled, how many were actually taught, whether teachers completed the syllabus and whether students received the teaching they were expected to attend?
