@aprilelena729: In December 1931, in the depths of the Great Depression, construction workers building Rockefeller Center pooled their money for a small Christmas tree and raised it on the muddy site. They decorated it with handmade garlands and tin cans, a humble symbol of hope while the great complex rose around them. Nobody planned a tradition — yet that modest tree became one. Two years later, in 1933, the first official tree-lighting ceremony was held, and the Rockefeller Christmas Tree began its journey to becoming the most famous holiday tree on earth. Today millions visit it each December and millions more watch it glow on television. But it all started with tired laborers in hard hats, in the hardest of times, refusing to let Christmas pass unmarked. Every December since, that spirit has returned to the plaza — proof that New York's greatest traditions often begin with its humblest gestures. 🙏🏼🌲
