Mountain Man :
There are 138 FBS teams, and through the 2025 season, 111 of today’s programs—80.4%—had NEVER made the CFP. Since it started in 2014, only 27 schools have participated, only 7 have won it, and just 4 have won multiple titles. Those four won 75% of the championships. During the four-team era, Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, and Oklahoma took 23 of 40 spots—57.5%.
What’s the point of having this many programs if so few get a chance to compete for the championship? Watching the same handful gets boring. Why are y’all so against giving smaller schools a shot? More exposure could help them recruit, build their programs, and make the entire sport more competitive.
Expansion already brought in 12 first-time participants in two seasons. No. 8 seed Ohio State won it all, and No. 10 seed Miami reached the championship. A 24-team field would include 17.4% of today’s FBS programs, compared with 8.7% for 12 teams and 2.9% for four.
Some of y’all act like only the SEC, Big Ten, and a handful of other programs deserve a chance. Nobody’s handing smaller schools a trophy. If your team is better, beat them on the field.
