Congressional investigations cite Becerra’s own “assembly line” comment and allege that his department prioritized rapid placement over adequate screening. At the same time, HHS received warnings about dangerous sponsors, child exploitation, and potential sex trafficking. Federal investigators later documented serious failures in sponsor background checks and follow-up, while Congress raised concerns about more than 85,000 children whose whereabouts or safety could not be confirmed. The evidence establishes that Becerra’s HHS was warned about trafficking risks and serious failures in tracking and protecting these children while rapidly releasing them from custody. Congressional investigators allege that these failures contributed to children being exploited and trafficked under his watch. Xavier Becerra knew this, but still let it happen.
