@earthsignalofficial: October 15, 2026 | Kalimantan, Indonesia Borneo's orangutans are losing their forest. 🔥🦧 As Indonesia faces its worst fire season in 11 years, the flames are burning straight through orangutan territory. From June 1 to August 28, 17,865 of the 22,744 fire hotspots detected across Kalimantan, about 78%, were inside mapped orangutan habitat, according to an analysis of government data by the conservation group Geopix. In West Kalimantan alone, 46 orangutans have been rescued from the fires since August, and some have been relocated to protected forest. Bornean orangutans are critically endangered, and many of these fires are burning in peat swamp forests, one of their most important habitats. Peat fires can smolder underground for weeks or even months, making them extremely hard to put out. #Orangutans #Borneo #Wildfires #Indonesia #SaveTheRainforest
