I remember when this happened. I was very young but my mom and grandparents were so dedicated to La Virgen de San Juan church.

My parents would take us to San Juan Church.. inside I would admire the beautiful painting of some saints , disciples, and Jesus and Mary

Our parents took us to see this. We traveled from Corpus Christi to witness the church all burned. The miracle of it all was that the Virgin was saved. Go every yr to visit

I was in 5th grade in Pharr TX on that October 25 1970. The teachers emptied the class rooms keeping the students in a straight line. We saw our beautiful church go up in fire and smoke that covered the entire San Juan and Pharr areas. most of the students lived around the neighborhood. After classes were out and arriving home the news reported that the polite person called San Juan church to warn them that he was crashing into the church and to have everyone in the church evacuated. The polite added that he was crashing into the church because all of his estate was taken away by state. I was 10 years old at the time like the rest of the students. And if some lost their lives I didn't ask, the choke seeing the high flames and the smoke fogging our eyes was too much. Now that I think about it, we were lucky not to get hurt because San Juan church and Pharr TX where I resided were about 10 miles apart the most. That day including the following months for the entire RGV were the most sad days.

This is my home town my parents talked about this , we live right in front of the tower across the street the tower is still part of that church still there I love my San Juan Texas 🙏🙏🙏💕💕💕

I was raised one block south of the church. Though I was born in 1973, in 1978 my kindergarten teacher showed us a picture of the airplane’s tail sticking out of the church’s roof.
