@history: Were there vampires in New England? In 19th-century New England, tuberculosis crept through families, leaving victims weakened, coughing blood and dying one after another. Before people understood the science behind the disease, many communities came to believe that the first family members buried were reaching from their graves to drain the life from those still living. Across the region, families exhumed their own dead, rearranged bones, burned hearts, and sometimes consumed the ashes as a cure. Folklorist Michael Bell has documented roughly 80 suspected vampire exhumations, with more possibly lost to history. Some were secret rituals that took place under the cover of night. Others became public spectacles attended by hundreds. To read more about this, visit our link in bio.

Saleh | AI Effects :
The most famous case was Mercy Brown in Rhode Island, 1892: villagers exhumed her, burned her heart and fed the ashes to her sick brother Edwin as a cure. He died two months later anyway.
