Always refreshing to see people acknowledging how anime looks way more white looking than Japanese. For the most part, they’re usually racially ambiguous to where they heavily lean European looking. This goes for Korean manhwas too. Because for some reason, people have a real problem, acknowledging this. People don’t like to admit to their white worship, especially Asians and people who put Japanese culture on a pedestal. Like for example, when you look at a lot of these fantasy anime/manga and you take those characters who are clearly European and put them in a Japanese setting. You wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference. Because you have people that draw characters that look just like that what are they supposed to be Japanese. Same thing with a lot of those romance Korean manhwas online. They’re clearly European characters with European names. But if you took those same characters and put them in a Korean setting, people would lie and say they look Korean and we all know that’s not true.

There is this anime called Mai Mai Miracle and it's about a rich Japanese girl moving to the country side. All the poor countryside kids have typical east Asian feature: small flat nose, small almond eyes, yellowish skin tone, straight black hair while the rich girl looked European: brown hair with curls at the end, straight nose and round eyes

Bro wants to say everything accept that Japanese ppl idolize Europeans, there's a reason a lot of the MAIN characters were blonde with blue eyes, if they were just making characters standout out or just leaning into color tv, they'd still make the main characters look asian and have side characters with bright hair/eye color

Japan and Japanese authors have always been obsessed with the West lol some of the earliest mangas and animes in the 60’s(?) through the 80’s took place in fictional classical European settings or countryside so I’m not surprised they like using exotic feature for their characters

It's more diverse color options in western hair and eyes. Hair types like curly and nose types --pointy noses or crooked noses. But the real serious question is why Japanese don't include very dark skin characters or Indians or Africand?

So hard to explain they don't look Western. They look Japanese because they look "default" and the default culture is Japanese. Look at the way non-Japanese are presented in Anime and you'll see a lot of features that emphasize the difference from default: tiny eyes, big noses, yellower skin. You'll see this a lot in slice of life anime style when non-Japanese characters are introduced, particularly Western ones.
