@galanibrad: 🇭🇺 DID YOU KNOW THAT THIS BEAUTIFUL SQUARE IN BUDAPEST HOLDS A TRAGIC HISTORY? Beneath these dark granite cracks lies a painful reminder of the Holocaust and the hundreds of people murdered here during World War II. This is Hasadás — The Fracture, a memorial honoring the victims and reminding us never to forget. 🕯️ Hasadás (The Fracture) — Holocaust Memorial in Budapest 🇭🇺 Hasadás (The Fracture) is a Holocaust memorial located at Liszt Ferenc tér in Budapest's District VI. Completed in December 2025, it commemorates the hundreds of people murdered at this location during the final months of World War II. 1. The tragic history behind the memorial In January 1945, during the final period of the Arrow Cross Party's rule in Hungary, hundreds of Jewish people and other victims were murdered in and around Liszt Ferenc Square. Victims were buried in mass graves in the area. After the war, hundreds of bodies were found and exhumed in 1946. For decades, this tragic history received little public attention, even though the square later became a popular place for restaurants, cafés, and social gatherings. The design carries several meanings: The cracks: Symbolize lives shattered by violence and the lasting wounds left by the Holocaust. The dark granite: Evokes gravestones and the mass graves discovered in the area. The patterns: Suggest faces and human silhouettes emerging from the darkness, representing stories and lives that were nearly forgotten. The memorial beneath our feet: Reminds visitors that painful history can lie beneath places that seem ordinary today. 📍 Liszt Ferenc tér, Budapest, Hungary #Hasadas #HolocaustMemorial #BudapestHistory #HungaryTravel #GalaNiBradInHungary
