@charlesswanson05: Elizabeth Nicole Jacobson was only 21 when a roadside b*mb struck her military convoy in Iraq, ending her life after just two years in the U.S. Air Force. She became the first female airman to lose her life in the line of duty while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. September 28, 2005. Near Safwan, Iraq. Airman First Class Elizabeth Jacobson was serving with the United States Air Force Security Forces. Her responsibility was to help protect American military personnel and convoys traveling through dangerous territory. She had joined the Air Force in 2003. At an age when many young Americans were still deciding what they wanted to do with their lives, Elizabeth had already chosen to serve her country. She trained as a Security Forces airman, taking on duties that required discipline, vigilance and the willingness to face danger. By the summer of 2005, she had deployed to Iraq. For more than three months, she carried out security responsibilities in a country where even routine movements could become dangerous without warning. Convoy protection was especially demanding. Military vehicles traveled roads where hidden roadside devices and sudden attacks posed constant threats. The airmen and soldiers responsible for protecting those movements had to remain alert throughout every journey. On September 28, Elizabeth was accompanying a convoy near the Iraqi town of Safwan, close to the Kuwaiti border. She was riding in a military vehicle alongside other service members. Then, without warning, an improvised expl*sive device detonated near their vehicle. The force of the expl*sion struck the convoy. Elizabeth did not survive. She was just 21 years old. U.S. Army Sergeant Steve Morin, a 34-year-old soldier from Arlington, Texas, also lost his life in the attack. Another service member, who had been operating the vehicle's turret we*pon, was wounded but survived. In a matter of moments, two American families had lost someone they loved. For the Air Force, Elizabeth's passing marked a painful historical first. She became the first female airman to lose her life in the line of duty while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. She was also the first member of the Air Force Security Forces to lose their life in conflict since the Vietnam War. But those distinctions tell only part of her story. Before she became a name in military history, Elizabeth was a young woman who had volunteered to serve. She had completed her training, joined her fellow airmen overseas and accepted responsibilities that placed her directly in harm's way. Her service lasted only two years. Her deployment lasted only a few months. Yet her sacrifice became part of the history of an entire military career field. Elizabeth was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Pompano Beach, Florida. Her story continues to be remembered within the Air Force Security Forces community, where her name represents both the dangers of military service and the young lives lost during the Iraq War. She was not a general. She was not a famous commander. She was a 21-year-old airman carrying out her duty on a dangerous road far from home. And on September 28, 2005, she never returned. Lest we forget Elizabeth Nicole Jacobson, and Sergeant Steve Morin, who lost their lives serving alongside one another in Iraq.for educational purposes only #fyp #suppourtourvetrans #supportourtroops #foryourpage

I was there in 05-06 for my second tour. But I’m not sure if we did any route clearance near where she was. I got lucky with the two manually detonated IEDs went off at/on my vehicle.
