gaia :
i can understand your point. my only problem is that the majority of lizzie’s supporters start with the claim that she has experienced such horrible things that, from her perspective, everything she does is forgivable. i think that’s a problematic way to approach her relationships with her friends and her experience with mental illness, because it inevitably turns into a comparison between her story (which is horrible, ofc) and everyone else’s, while these same people keep saying “don’t compare traumas”, which is exactly what they’re doing!
not to mention that most of the fandom hates claire for doing essentially the same thing hugh did to lizzie, so c’mon!
my personal opinion is that if the argument is “i understand her trauma, i think it affected her life and her choices, but i can still think critically about her behaviour”, then i can agree with that. but if the argument is “you can’t dislike her because of her behaviour, because she’s been through so much worse than the other characters, and if you do dislike her, you’re being mean, you’re letting mark win, you’re a misogynist” (along with all the other baseless accusations people keep making in their tiktoks), then no, i can’t agree with that. i don’t want to start any fight and i apologise if it seemed, i understand and partially agree with you, but i think it’s still necessary to keep saying that mental illness it’s not an excuse.
