Watchman Weis :
which dispensation? there are different rules for each. under\nThe dispensation of the law got operated through a physical theocracy (ancient Israel) where the death penalty was a mandatory spiritual and civil requirement to purge sin from the community. In this era, physical execution was swift and directly tied to a person's immediate, spiritual, cutting off from god's covenant, people. However, under the dispensation of grace, a profound shift occurs: the church is a spiritual body rather than a civic government , meaning the authority to execute physical justice has been handed over entirely to secular human governments (Romans 13:4). While the modern state retains the legal right to enforce the death penalty for crimes like murder, the spiritual application of that penalty now depends entirely on whether the individual is saved or lost. for a save person who commits a capital crime (and they can still do that), civil laws may still justly sentence them to physical death, but their spiritual debt has already been paid in full by Jesus Christ on the cross. their execution marks the end of their earthly life, but they faced absolutely no eternal condemnation. for a lost person, the period spent on death row acts as a profound window of "common grace" and divine patience. unlike the immediate judgments under the Law, for dispensation of grace provides a temporary stay of spiritual execution, delaying final judgment to give the individual ever opportunity to turn to Christ and accept salvation before their physical timeline expires.
