Always painful when I see the pieces in museums. Almost every museum in the West has a section on Benin exhibiting these stolen pieces

February 18 1897, the British was able to entered Benin after weeks of fierce battle but could not access the palace till after three days on 21st February 1897 after they were able to break through the last defence led by Asoro. All these weeks of fierce battle, they tried to penetrate Benin through Ekewan road, but the might of the Benin defence minister "Chief Ezomo" could not allowed them and they were unable to penetrate Benin through that route. They have to retreat and finally came with much reinforcements through Sakpoba road, this is when they met with the defence of Asoro who was just a commoner in the palace. Even with the defence of Asoro, The British have to retreat to restrategised when they find out that the person they were unable to break through was just a commoner in the palace.
