What did you do as a teenager that you waited to tell your parents about until later in life? • So quick backstory. My Dad was a cop for a total of 48 years. I grew up in a small town. All of my friends Dad's were either cops or the local Fire Chief. With that said, we thought that we were untouchable as teenagers. One of my friends family owned our local Ace Hardware that had a lumber warehouse. One night we got the bright idea to see if we could break in. Now we easily could've just grabbed the key from his house as his Mom managed the store, but where is the fun in that? We wanted to see if we had the skills to crawl up the lumber, scale the rafters and drop in through a ceiling panel. We had zero intention of taking anything. We were just bored, small town kids. At the time my Dad was a State Trooper. I decided that I was going to take his radio out of his home office and tune it to the local dispatch channel that way we would have a leg up and be able to listen to and calls/reports of a burg in progress. Genius right? Big action!!! Well what my 13-14 year old teenage brain didn't take into consideration was that my Dad worked an on call position. Thankfully by the grace of my guardian angel that constantly worked overtime, he didn't get a callout. My Dad finally hung up the cape after nearly 50 years of LE service some years ago now. After he was officially retired and no longer had legal enforcement authority. I told him at the dinner table. The look on his face was priceless. • Now what does this story have to do with me being a cop now? I was a small town punk rock kid that did it all. So if you try and do something silly, just know I did it as well, didn't get caught, but you better believe I will catch you 😂
