Her growth has really accelerated, and we're still on molt watch. 🦀❤️ A lot of people have suggested renaming her Lucy Flawless when she molts. It's an adorable suggestion, but I want to use this opportunity to bring positive attention to limb loss and limb differences. Let's talk about it. So many people have reached out to share their stories. Some have children born with limb differences. Others have lost limbs because of accidents, cancer, diabetes, or war. I want to be a voice for them, too. I don't view limb loss or limb differences as a "flaw." Whether you were born with a limb difference or lost a limb to injury or illness, you are perfect just as you are. Our differences don't define us. We are whole, worthy, and amazing just as we are. Someone recently reminded me (Cait ❤️🦽) that I'm also a disability advocate, among all the other things I do. My lower spine is made of metal and human donor bone. I know what it's like to live with a disability. I also care for my disabled mother, whose spine and hips were permanently damaged by radiation treatments for stage 4 cancer. She won her battle, but her mobility was the price she paid. I used to think of myself as broken and flawed. I still have nerve damage and a stiff walk, but that's part of who I am. It doesn't make me any less whole. When I see children and adults with limb differences, I see amazing people. I love watching people adapt and thrive. It's humbling, and it reminds me to be kinder to myself, too. I know Lucy Flawless is a name suggested with love, but I can't help thinking about how a child or someone with a limb difference might feel hearing it. I want my advocacy to remind people that they don't have to be "flawless" to be wonderful. Once Lucy Clawless molts, she'll simply be Lucy the Crab. ❤️ #LucyClawless #limbloss #limbdifference #howiethecrabandfriends
