He also neglects to acknowledge MOST of the state of New York is actually red. It’s just because NYC is so densely populated we are a blue state. But I live in a red area in New York. It’s terrible!!!

I feel like following morality and being pragmatic are often at odds in people like valenti. His words can be… “true” in the sense that we should absolutely keep up the pressure with this faulty system, but… we’re white. We don’t feel the Overton window shifting the same way minority groups do. Their rage is necessary but the outlet being on their own team is where I’m like… why are we hitting ourselves, why can we not have conversations without behavior that doesn’t come off as a tantrum

working at historical sites around of Virginia (a purple state) made this very clear to me -nobody goes harder on respecting the past and all of its complexities and hardships then an older leftist living in a red area with a bunch of Trump signs around them

I moved from a deep red state to New York, and I don’t know how to verbalize to my blue state friends the panic I still feel when this government does anything. Objectively I know I’m much safer living in a blue state, but my body hasn’t caught up and I can’t explain that to people who have never had to feel that fear.

Reason I lean forwards reformist then revolutionary. Sure I would love to replace the system but that’s not going to happen so if we reform and slowly move to the left people who aren’t in blue spaces won’t be actively hurt as we work towards the system that will help everyone. He is in love with the romanticized vision of revolution without considering the realty of it and the blood cost. Letting perfect be the enemy of good.
