In a statement to E! News, Jon said he was incredibly proud of Collin’s book, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, and its aim of helping others who have experienced Ab\*se. Jon also pushed back against claims questioning his son’s mental health, warning that repeating what he believes are false labels could damage Collin’s reputation and future. Collin says he underwent three independent psychiatric evaluations and believes the results support his account of what happened to him. In his memoir, Collin describes allegedly being isolated from his siblings, physically punished as a child, and sent to a mental health facility in 2016. He claims he spent nearly two years in treatment and that his mother visited him only once during that period. He also alleges that strict restrictions and harsh treatment left him feeling separated from the rest of his family. Kate has previously said Collin received multiple psychiatric diagnoses and required inpatient treatment because of what she described as unpredictable behavior.
