water is very cheap when you you compare it to lifes other essentials like gas and electricity. There's a massive amount of work involved in cleaning water and getting it to your taps.

Foul has overflowed to rivers since day 1, it happens by design. Pre privitisaton overflow monitoring was zero now it's 100%. If you want to stop it totally the cost estimate is 500 billion. Since privatisation the water companies have invested over 235 billion on infrastructure, So it needs double that. Also since privatisation they have paid out 70 billion to shareholders. So reinvestment has got most of the profit.
