“Come Lord Jesus” I often think about my parents, both gone now. And while I see myself struggling often in the same ways they did, I don’t think they struggled like me. The world is different. And I’m sure every generation has said that about the one before. And they wouldn’t be wrong. But the world IS different. The speed of the world is different. The timeline is different. I love my husband. I love my sweet girls that I prayed for and am so thankful for. I am thankful for a job that provides for my family. For the roof over my head. For the car that isn’t new but still gets me where I need to go most of the time. And so much more. But I’m so weary. Not in a “I need more sleep” way but in a “my soul is tired” kind of way. Maybe it’s being 49 and realizing I have less time in my windshield than I have in my rear view. But I think it’s mostly because everything is so flippin’ hard these days. Parenting in a digital age is awful. The constant worry about preparing my kids for life but not wanting the world to have access to them. Their safety in a world that looks more like Sodom and Gomorrah everyday. Basic necessities are outrageous. Gas is outrageous. Utilities are through the roof. Everyone needs a side hustle just to make ends meet. Or they’re cutting way back on things that used to be an easy yes. So I’m not lying when I say, “Come Lord Jesus.” This isn’t my home. And I’m tired. I’ll fight to the end. But if the Lord came back today, I don’t think I’d be sad.
