@paperbackate: I feel like your 30s are such a weird time because you know SO much more than you did in your 20s, but also somehow realize how little you actually know? 😂 These are a few books I think everyone should read at some point in their 30s. What would you add to the list? #BookRecommendations #BooksToReadInYour30s #Bookstagram #BookTok #NonfictionBooks
The book you wish your parents had read is very powerful book to read even if you don’t want to be a parent

The Psychology of Money. Doesn’t teach you how to invest it teaches you how to think about money and how others think about it

Realizing how little you know is oddly the sign you have been learning. Has reading nonfiction made that feeling better or worse for you?

Laziness does not exist by Devon Price and Saving Time by Jenny Odell. Time as we know it is a construct, the moralization of productivity is a construct. Laziness does not exists talks about studies of the brain on productivity and how this idea that we can produce well for eight hours straight or longer, is a lie and we structure our society around that lie because doing so reinforces the idea that we’re never enough, and keeps the working class in a state of guilt and shame - making us very pliable. It keeps us punching down instead of punching up. Saving time talks about the construction of time and how we are convinced that things like down time only exist to recharge us so we can work again - suggesting that any time we spend not working only exists to ready ourselves to work again.

I’m reading one called “The Other Side of Sadness” right now and it talks about theories of grieving and how people are more resilient than they might think they are. I feel that it might be another helpful one!

Read Four Thousand Weeks… honestly a great read!! As someone who has so many fun ideas, high ambition, yet wants to stay intentional, it put a new lens on decision making and finality.

1. Born a Crime by Trevor Noah- I am sad to say that as a millennial American I had little understanding of what Apartheid was. He is an amazing man and this was a great read, lots of laughs (despite the rough setting). I re-read it every few years.
2. Before and Laughter by Jimmy Carr. GREAT BOOK about life and chasing your dreams, how to deal with trauma, and be better. All without the patronizing tone many "self help" books have. I have read it about 10 times and every time I hear something new.
BOTH HAVE GREAT AUDIOBOOKS! As both men are comedians, they have great reading energy.
