its always c suite that demands these higher security policies that suck (not the actual practical security) that they then demand to be excluded from
last place i worked, the ceo threw a hissy fit that he fell for a phish test, so he had to go on a list where he never got them again

Password policies are out of control anymore. My last corporate job: change every 3 months, upper, lower, number, special characters, at least 16 digits long and 2fa on everything. They wanted to enforce this on customers too, that were using Gmail accounts. They got big mad when I said it wasn’t possible.

let's block saving or editing any files for our salespeople on the field in fear of them sharing the data with someone but encourage people in office uploading all of our data into AI so it can make reports for us.. also, let's use passkey that needs the newest OS, but have policy that they can't get newer devices for at least 3 years..

Password policys where always counterproductive, but the jackasses in legal (no, NOT I.T., we're not the bad guys!) insist on it. And the CEO (the one who gets to use "password") orders us to do it...

If you need it, submit a ticket with the business need. They can make exceptions. But by going about it yourself without talking to anyone, you were probably the reason policies like this have to be put in place

IT stopped me using my fingerprint scanner. So now I have a button stuck under my desk with my password saved on it. Make things more difficult for people and they'll find insecure ways around your policies
