Firelord Mandy :
sadly this is normal, especially when they do it at 2 am over your fucking face while you're trying to sleep 😭😭

he's pulling off the outer layer of the claw to sharpen it! it's a natural part of grooming and they usually do this to pull off the outer layer

A billion times normal. If you ever let the claws grow out they will shed whole layers of the claw, it’s really cool, but also with clipping nails so you aren’t getting stabbed for walking barefoot around the house.

The outer layer of a cat’s claws shed off. They pull like this to get that layer off because it itches. Perfectly normal.

My kitty grooms obsessively, so Wellix cat grass kibble is part of our daily hairball care.

does he have a scratching tree? when they can't take the outer layer of the claw they'll do that. Normally it'll come off while scratching

By boy does this cause I think it pisses him off when we cut his nails so he bites them to make them sharper again

STOP HIM. PLEASE. it’s seems im the only one to say this so far so let me explain my case🫶🏼 my baby girl started doing this 2 years ago, one morning randomly she wouldn’t put pressure on her paw so we waited till she was napping to look and i’ll try to include the photo but she bit her nails so much and it either snagged or bit too much of the nail off and it became INFECTED. paw was swelled beyond oblivion. Took her to the Er and they gave her antibiotics, gabapentin, these disinfecting wipes and a topical ointment. We repeated this process with 6 total vets over the course of 2 years due to them either not having the proper supplies, referring to a better provider, or recommending DECLAWING. The issue started March 2024 and just resolved itself magically JUNE. THIS YEAR. the only thing i can recommend is to stop him, redirect him to chew on something else and def regularly trim his nails and put claw caps on- Id literally hate for anyone else as a pet parent and for their baby to have to go through that struggle💋💋

Claw caps. He’s pulling them off. Usually they fly off when they run Mach Jesus on carpet. Do you have much carpet?

he is a very clean boy, as long as he's not growling or anything while he's doing it it should be perfectly fine!
