The Pines also had a black cemetery, which is now only a historic marker. I live in this area and it's worse than this. Our neighborhood was built by LeRoy Eakin, Sr., a big land developer of the 50s and 60s. I had to get a plat of my property and imagine my surprise when I saw on the neighborhood layout it was white only. The Eakins are still big developers today, but you won't find anything in the history about their white only properties. They, and others, systematically pushed black people out of the area.

That's cool the area is named after George Merrifield, and in turn having the local post office also carrying that name. Especially now that it is regarded one of the top 2 busiest if not the single busiest Post offices in America. From being the regional hub for the DMV area servicing roughly 3 million people, a large percentage of the federal Government's mail, and notably all passport distribution.
