I think everyone is REALLY overlooking that "we're not being productive". Not to say Ty doesn't have flaws (especially communication) but I think there's something way deeper there.

See, I don’t think Ty lied I think his priorities changed. I wonder how we would feel if it was the other way around and Julie decided she is fulfilled being home with the kids. Ty would look like an ass for being so unforgiving. People change, priorities change and she could’ve been a little more flexible and understanding.

As someone who is divorced I like how this shows that no one is totally to blame for a separation. He did lie and she did not appreciate him and what parenting entails. Most of the time people just grow apart.

There’s two sides. He doesn’t feel seen and all his contributions to the family and his kids is valid but Julie wants him to say hey this isn’t what I’m working toward anymore. He should have said it but maybe he was still figuring that out. She needs to realise that somewhere along the line we can change as adults, our priorities can change. She shouldn’t just cut him off but she has always set such a hard boundary and he convinced her to have more kids. So it’s not like he didn’t know either. So she’s also valid.

Ty was an essential component of Julie being able to chase her dreams. I don’t understand the blame being put on him for not finishing his novel while he’s raising the kids. Like sure, I guess he could have, but is he really so terrible a partner just because he didn’t publish his novel and the children are still babies.?

julie: Ive expressed múltiple occasions my issue is i was lied to about your goals, looking back i realize you never intended to leave this small town, and while you're entitled to your own life, i ssid from the start i would hate to remain here forever, not only that, but without Consulting me you put me in the shoes of a breadwinner. everyother character: you fucked up, why did you lie? its ok if you wsnted to stay here but she was not obligated to stay with you just because you loved her, instead you put up excuses and keep denying to us that you lied and when we insist you deflect pretending that julies issue is that you are a good dad. ty and most of the audience for some reason: shes so ungrateful, yeah she originally didn't plan for kids and offered day care so the goals she believed were being put on pause could return, how dare se not change her mind about not wanting a small town life?!?! did se think that after kids constant travel was a thing? yeah she said she wanted now to settle in a big city so the kids would have every oportunity and travel would be less frequent but still she's so unrealistic and unreasonable for NOT WANTING A LIFE SHE ALWAYS SAID SHE DID NOT WANT.

I really disliked Julie since the beginning, but it seems like she was also emotionally manipulating Ty by forcing his productivity which is why he thinks it's so weird that he and John are just on the couch not doing anything. Their relationship is a complex tragedy.

Julie and Ty were both really bad at communicating 😬 like, I do think it's still more on Julie because every time Ty tried it was met with "not now" and then Ty tried to get them to go to couples counseling and it was met with a flat "no." That is to say Ty has his issues but if the other person won't even meet you half way there's nothing you can do about it
