most churches or cathedrals were built on top of piramids, due to the lack of indigenous people trying to convert to catholic so spaniard built the churches on top of their temples.

I don’t know about Mexican history specifically but the church has a habit of building cathedrals on top of pagan holy sites.

I stayed in the hotel behind the church and it had the same thing Glass floors so you could see the archaeologist down there working it was so fucking awesome

As an archaeologist student, this happens a lot! Places get buried under newer layers especially in places with longggg history. Rome has places build on top of other places on top of another. This is just how things were
