@builtwiththis: Your builder won't tell you this unless you ask. You MUST tell your builder this before the slab is poured. 🛑 Have them run a continuous sleeve around the main water line, from outside the foundation, under the dirt, all the way up through the slab to the shutoff. A larger conduit or PVC pipe with long-sweep elbows on the turns, so the water line lives inside it. Custom builders call it pre-sleeved PEX or a pipe-in-pipe main. Here's why nobody does it on a low-bid build. It costs a couple hundred bucks in extra material and labor and the homeowner doesn't know to ask. So they skip it. And the main line just gets buried directly under the slab. Then five or ten years from now that line develops a leak, a fitting fails, or the line gets damaged underground. The only way to fix it is jackhammering through your living room floor, busting up the slab, ripping up your hardwood or tile. Slab leak repairs run $1,500 to $4,000+ before you've replaced the flooring. With a continuous sleeve, a plumber pulls the old line out and slides a brand new one right through the conduit. No demo. No floor tearout. It's the upgrade homeowners wish they'd asked for before the concrete trucks left. $200 in sleeve and fittings now. $5,000+ in repair and flooring later. #preslab #plumbing #customhome Pre-Drywall Checklist is in my bio.

I ran 3" corrugated pipe for all my water lines to run through under the slab, cheap and plenty of room for pex pulls

Great idea! Hopefully I’m still living in the house 60 or 70 years from now when the copper goes bad.

I ran my own plumbing and ran the main waterline under where there was going to be an interior wall about 10” from the edge of the slab. If it ever needs replacing I will only have to dig to it and remove a section of drywall. The water line is 3/4” the sleeve through the slab is 1”.
