I have a family member that had a duck spoiled as heck and play the game of tag where you would have to chase her around the room and if you stop moving she would look at you wagging her little tail waiting for you to follow her to try to pick up again before she zooms off she wasn't afraid of us she was just being a brat playing tag without giving anyone a choice if they wanted to or not and every time that she heard a voice that she loves she would remain silent until she hears that voice then she would refuse to shut up until that person she wanted came in seeing her

Hello from my crew to yours. You explained this perfectly. They love to chat if you get on level with them. Some duck owners forget that if you tower over them…the “it’s a predator “ instinct takes over. Mine will tolerate being held, but they like to have the option of jumping down, so if I pick them up which is rare…I let them stand so they have their feet under them. Not dangling. Mine are imprinted, but still no no touch. Working in the pen….the come over and I get little pecks like what are ya doing there and they live to poop on my reading blanket and tell stories, but still no touch touch

I raised my ducks in my sun room and bonded pretty closely with them…but only 2/3 of my ducks enjoy hands-on attention. My Cayuga, CanCan, expresses herself in an entirely different way - loves to be talked to, dances, and insists on doing happy flaps to show me she’s laid an egg. She’s a sweetheart (and a reminder that love comes in all different forms).

I believe this theory 100%. I used to think my duck hens hated me while my drake loves me. He's always up in my business and loves physical affection (lil freak haha), whereas my girls avoid allowing me within touching distance. But my girls come when called, follow me when my drake isn't in their vicinity, and look to me to protect them when they are nervous. They are always curious about what I am doing, just at a distance. The rare occasions when they decide to eat out of my hand are the most magical 🥰

I talk to mine constantly. Several start wagging their little butts like crazy when they hear me, and I’ve just decided that that’s how they show me that they like me 😂 and if someone comes up and nibbles on me it puts me on cloud 9 for the rest of the day. I’ve deluded myself into thinking that that means they REALLY love me 😂😂😂

My geese love to "talk" to me. They love to come over and see what I am doing. But if I stretch out a hand to pet or even offer treats, it is a quick "no touchy" situation.
