I think with the easier draw in 2025 we probably over achieved, and this year we where back to reality and shows where we really are at, I still think we can get better with the list we got with people like Dan curtain hhk and worrell still getting better

Need another star mid and elite ball user off half back. Did the right thing not chasing plodders after missing out on Bailey. Need a healthy Thilthorpe and will be close to landing NAS

There are potential A graders Curtin, Thilthorpe, Rachele, Worrell, Michalanney and Sid Draper… I think it’s coaching rather than list but I agree they would all have to have career best seasons to put a dent in the top 4…. I think we are a level below the top teams…. They explained their trade period very well… they wanted to keep their draft hand and there were no other free agents other Zac Bailey that they could go after. Contracted players were off the table as they didn’t want to lose top draft picks with the compromised draft next 2 seasons… I think we’ll be same as this season 5-10

adelaide were percentage outside the top 4 this year after playing to the bye with almost half the best 22 injured. the list is there but the coaching is so far off. adelaide planned to make curtin a full time mid from round 1 but he did his knee in the offseason and i think that cooked a lot of the gameplan. i think adelaide get their good decision maker/ball user with pace in the midfield by playing Zac Taylor in there. They trialled him a fair bit in the mids in the last month of the year and he was really strong. Nicks needs better assistant coaches, he literally has a defensive mid coaching the forward line right now. Take Tex out and they’ll get more pace moving the ball by playing shorter since you can just rest Dawson/Curtin forward when needed. I think there’s potential there for them to improve with a few tweaks. Like, figure out a way to get Rachele involved in the play more. Get him to be the one connecting between the mids and forwards. idk, i reckon they’ve got a lot they need to improve on and maybe that just takes time like it does with some teams (brisbane for instance when they had a finals hoodoo before 2022-23). Been disappointing to watch this year in parts but hopefully something clicks for them next season.

I think there's a fundamental misunderstanding of people outside of South Australia on just how hard it is to bring in players who do not have ties to South Australia who have options elsewhere. It has always been that way and once Zac Bailey re-signed with Brisbane there really weren't many options left. People say "They should have had other targets" but you're looking at a club whose greatest player they traded in who didn't have ties to South Australia being Paul Seedsman. Basically every other player they went after (eg Whitfield) had offers in Victoria and guess what players take 95% of the time? And there's a reason the next targets moved to NAS and Will Day. You also can't say Nicks is a good coach but then say he has an outdated style, can't transition the ball and never move the ball with any intent. This is not Nicks coaching what he thinks he has, it's his belief in football 100%. We can get on top of lesser teams with contest and pressure, but once we face a team who can match us there it all falls apart because there's no real method to any of it. It's just taking a hammer to every game and hoping your opponent is a nail. When we had James Rahilly in charge of ball movement in 2024 look at how they could score. He left, Nicks took it back over and look at what it turned into. He's a bottom 4 coach in the league who is way out of his depth tactically and is too slow to actually make any changes when things turn south in a game.

2025, may have been lightning in a bottle; easy draw and their game plan wasn’t totally outdated yet. Yet they will probably still come 7th-10th next season.

I really wonder how the side without Tex will go next year, don’t forget we ended up top in 2025, so there has to be talent there, unfortunately we are not Geelong , they certainly need to be looked at??

Crows also drafted horrendously until the spoon, along with everyone leaving, since then though almost all talent is through draft/development with Nicksy much like your Brisbanes and hawthorn who haven’t picked up much talent until success, developed Keane from a nobody at Collingwood, Dawson also, premiership experience ANB been huge. If Ah chee can stay on the park I think he’s proven to add quite a bit, him laird and now Cunningham are the only old players on the list. The team will improve no doubt-whether it shows on the ladder this year will be hard when bulldogs and hawthorn obviously getting a lot better, can’t see a repeat year from the suns with their talent either. But as you’ve said we find a way to stay in games

Saw a thilthorpe down year due to back issues all year, it was him vs Darcy best key talk for a good while, Worrell aswell having to play different role when Keane/butts/murray injured all year - both from all Australian squad and team, I agree we’re a piece or 2 away, very young list though having to develop from almost nothing. Realistically our 1st place finish was a fluke more like a 3-6 team that lucked out a bit. I don’t see who we could’ve targeted apart from throwing stupid money at Neale/Whitfield/degoey who are probably too old for the peak window 2+ years from now

Forgot to mention a lot of our sanfl guys are afl ready saw us resting half backs/wingers/fwds) towards the end of year just because we could those couple games are huge for developing sanfl guys even vs Essendon , promising to see a system where one injury won’t kill the squad(hence keeping Murray is vital) stars excluded obviously
