if you have just Medicare insurance, the original , you may want a supplemental insurance that will pay the 20% that Medicare doesn't pay. Medicare pays 80%. They can also pay your Medicare Premium. You will also need a Prescription plan to pay for meds. You can also see Doctors who take your Medicare insurance and specialists without a referral as long as they take your insurance. Advantage plans can be helpful if you have a chronic illness. They will include a prescription plan built in. They are can include transportation to and from your appointments and vision and dental. Ihope this helps a little . Good Luck!

i forgot to mention... Medicare offers a LIS program, also called extra help plan, depending on your income for 0 premiums. it is a medicare essential plan. there are different levels of assistance depending on your income. it comes from social security and not a medical plan. it also offers mostly free meds or at very low costs.

you want the supplemental not the advantage. the advantage is much cheaper but doesn't help much like for big things.

Always do your research before selecting a plan. I knew, after looking at the choices, that I would never want an Advantage Plan. Instead, the Medicare Supplement Plans are by far the very best. Exactly what do you have?

I have Humana PPO. I changed from Humana Gold Plus. I wish I hadn’t changed. I think I paid less out of pocket with the Gold Plus. I pay every month for that insurance coverage. It comes out of my Social Security each month. I think it is around $200 a month. I have always heard that it is better to have just Medicare and no other supplemental or Advantage plan. I don’t know why though. I do have a free insurance advisor and I think I’m gonna talk to her again during the open enrollment October to December time period to see should I switch this year.

Medicare Advantage every year you have to check to see if your same doctors are on the list, each year it changes, Medicare you keep the same Doctors, and it pays 80% of all medical then you can get a prescription plan

I basically did the same thing you did: I signed up for Medicare Advantage not even knowing that regular Medicare existed. Now I wish I could switch to original Medicare, but I would have to undergo medical questions because of all the health issues I have now. I do not think they would approve for me. 1/2…..

Sadly, so many get confused when picking Medicare and find out the hard way. Advantage plans are private companies that basically take over which is probably what you have. Medicare supplemental goes with traditional Medicare. I have traditional with a supp plan and it paid for my ablation without issue. The thing is the supp plan is expensive which is why many choose an Advantage plan.

Use a licensed insurance company. They will explain supplemental insurance and what is right for your needs. And it's free!!
