As a former executive chef in a large hotel (with 6 main event venues + 5 other locations that could be used for smaller events) this would not have been a problem to both cancel and rebook a scheduled event 6 months out.

Sounds like they need a financial audit. Mismanagement of money. If I had an event there I would be concerned about their ability to remain open due to financial reasons. They are collecting money, for an event using said money for other events.

Business likely has no cash flow and uses deposits to keep up. Kind of like living paycheck to paycheck. Once they had the money, they spent that shit.

State law should be changed to make venues put deposits into escrow accounts when events are so far in advance. That way the money is protected. Like real estate deposits.

I was a banquet manager for sixteen years, all deposits for pending events were in a separate account. No food, liquor, supplies, linen, or other items were purchased that far out from the event. I would think the only loss was holding the venue for that date. I suspect they don't have the funds to reimburse.

My brother and sister in law had toured there prior to this incident coming to surface and they were saying when we toured they were doing new construction. I wonder if that's where the money went.
