I'm in ireland and when I separated we had to be legally separated 5 years before we could apply for divorce. Then covid happened, it took 9 years of separation, & backlog from covid cases in the courts to finally be free. It's now 3 years of separation before applying for divorce, which is still ridiculous.

In Massachusetts you can be living in the same house and jointly file for divorce (or just one can file) and it will be heard expeditiously. This waiting period shit has got to go.

What people don’t tell you is that you also have to keep covering them on your insurance during the separation and you have to keep paying all the bills. Unless a judge gives you reprieve you are required.
