@myarfidlife: Hannah recently broke a bracket and the fear of breaking another one has made Hannah avoid some of her crunchy safe foods, making eating even harder. Her orthodontist reassured her that fixing a broken bracket is his job, and it should be the least of her worries. He’ll happily fix as many as he needs to, as long as she’s eating. Knowing that it’s okay if it happens, and that he can take care of it, helped her feel better. Support and accommodations like this mean everything. I haven't broke a bracket and it's been a year. I have a few balls at my face and head bc if gym class my senior year but that didn't break anything. my mom also threw a can at me to open and accidentally hit my brace didn't break there pretty strong

i wish I never took braces ,they have ruined my life and possibly forever. It has caused a lot I mean a lot of issues TMJ and severe pain mean my jaw wasn't as bad before braces and after them it just got worse and worse. I've had 3 surgeries already and need a 4th unfortunately and I've not ate solids in 7 years 😬🥺

huh. at least you can feel good about breaking a bracket. my mom says "don't break a bracket or else." well practically like that, not exactly as harsh but that makes me really scared to break a bracket.

everyone saying they never broke a bracket 😅 I only had top braces and I broke bracket at least once every 3 months lmao. my dentist was so good about fitting me in to get the bracket put back on, simple quick and easy.

I once broke one in a super funny way. had food from lunch stuck in the wire. used my sweater sleeve to get it out. sleeve got stuck on the hook. I yanked my sleeve out and the entire bracket came loose and flipped over. its been 15 years and I still laugh about this from time to time.

Don’t worry Hannah. When I had braces on at the orthodontist to change the wire and band. I moved my tongue over my bottom braces and a bracket fell out

Hey Hannah would I you say I have arfid I only have 3 safe foods have bad anxiety over foods and never try new ones and my throat always closes up when I see foods I don’t like and it’s the texture smell and looks of food that scares me

It’s not just about guilt and wanting to respect the braces and the person who put them on, but also it’s a sensory nightmare to go from feeling uniformity (especially with your tongue being so sensitive, little changes feel big) of every bracket on the tooth it’s supposed to be on, of the feeling it makes against your cheek/gums.
