There are things in this world that don't belong to any particular category. Not beautiful enough to admire, not strange enough to make us look twice, yet somehow impossible to forget. The half-formed thoughts that arrive uninvited, the familiarity of a place you've never been, the sudden urge to laugh at something that would sound like nonsense if explained aloud. Moments when existence feels slightly misaligned, as though reality misplaced a comma and the universe is waiting for someone to notice. Perhaps the world has always been this strange. Perhaps we've simply learned to look past it. We name things to make them manageable. We measure, classify, explain, fold the unmanageable into smaller shapes and call the pieces understanding. But what about the things that refuse to fit? What do you call almost remembering a dream that never happened? The affection you develop for a place you've visited only once? The ordinary afternoon that follows you for years, carrying the faint impression that something important passed through without bothering to introduce itself? We spend so much time searching for significance that we sometimes forget to experience things before deciding what they mean. Maybe not every moment is a message. Maybe the universe isn't scattering clues for us to gather into some grand revelation. Maybe an afternoon can be beautiful without secretly preparing us for something else. Some things can simply happen. We can enjoy something without mastering it, love something without possessing it, and let a moment matter without demanding that it change our lives. There is a freedom in that, in allowing an experience to remain unfinished, like a sentence discovered in an old book whose final page has been lost. We can still feel something without knowing precisely what it is. We've become so accustomed to reaching for answers that uncertainty feels like an empty room we're supposed to furnish. Yet perhaps some rooms are better left open, their doors leading somewhere we've never thought to look. Some questions are beautiful because they leave the door unlocked. The universe isn't a book we've nearly finished reading. It's a language still forming in our mouths, a thousand unfamiliar words waiting somewhere beyond the limits of what we've learned to recognize. Perhaps there's something worth protecting in the parts of life that remain undefined. Not everything needs a name. Not everything needs a destination. Not everything that passes through our hands was ever meant to be held. Some things arrive, alter an afternoon, and disappear before we understand what happened. Some linger long after their details have faded. Others leave nothing behind except the strange suspicion that the world is larger than we thought. Perhaps that's enough. Perhaps wonder was never meant to be solved, only encountered; like finding a door in a familiar wall and realizing you've never wondered what might exist on the other side. We spend our lives drawing borders around the things we understand, forgetting that every border is also an admission of what lies beyond it. And somewhere beyond those fragile boundaries, beyond the little boxes we build to make existence easier to carry, the world continues being more than we know how to call it. Perhaps the extraordinary thing isn't that we understand so much. It's that we can stand here, in the middle of all this bewildering existence, with so many unanswered questions and so few certain things, and still find ourselves curious. Still looking. Still wondering. Still discovering that even the smallest corner of the ordinary world can contain something we've never imagined. Somewhere between what we can name and what escapes every definition, there is a space we haven't filled. For once, we can leave it that way. #deafpoets2511
