I was still in orientation as a new grad. Multiple family members were coming in with a bunch of food and heading to the patient’s room. I excitedly said “oh you guys are having a party in there”, three family members turned and stared blankly… they were putting their family on hospice and all gathering to say their goodbyes 😣🫣

A newer attending I was working with in the ER was updating a family. As he was walking out he said “hang in there”. The patient had attempted sui€ide by hanging. I still think about it, so I know he does!

During a mass casualty drill in nursing school I very confidently told the ER doctor that an IUD exploded instead of an IED. 😭

I’m a phlebotomist and I went to draw blood on a patient and said im just going to steal your arm and get some blood. The patient lifted his arm and said someone already stole it….🫠🫠🫠🫠🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣

I had a double leg amputee patient ask me for socks. I brought back socks, pulled the blanket down to put said socks on, and he laughed at me 😂😭 I think about it all the time.

my daughter passed away in the NICU and I had an intern see me as I was leaving after coming back to collect her mittens and socks and asked how i liked having her home. we had literally just picked her urn up the day before from the funeral home. I didnt have the heart to tell him she died bc he struggled so bad with how sick she was. i guess someone told him and he called me sobbing later on to say sorry and that he hoped he didnt hurt my feelings. I still think about him and hope he didnt quit internship and that hes an amazing Dr today.

As a hospice nurse in a memory care unit I was seeing a patient there that day…I literally helped a lady on the elevator (needs code to get on) and walked out the front doors chatting w her. I found out later she jumped in back of a plumbers truck and three miles down road he noticed her and she convinced him to drop her off at a church.

WHY DID I FEEL THE NEED TO SAY ANYTHING AT ALL 🤦♀️You had to be there honestly.

Not bad by these standards, but answering an ambulance patch by saying “ This ism——— hospital, go away” instead of “ go ahead”. EMS was laughing so hard they could hardly get the report out.

I needed to draw blood on a patient and couldn’t find any veins in the arm I was looking at. I asked if I could see his other arm and he just started sobbing. He just got back from having his arm amputated…. I just turned around and walked out without saying a word… I was horrified 😬

I am a night shift CT tech and I brought the patient back to their room. They were in one of the trauma rooms and the lights were so bright. I said to the patient “it’s like you’re in heaven with the lights so bright” the family in the was quiet then said “um maybe it’s like we’re at the beach”. 😬

had a patient tell me he needed anesthesia for a JP drain removal because he had low pain tolerance. I explained the risk of anesthesia for a very minor, mildy uncomfortable procedure, assured him that it was very routine and often done outpatient at surgery follow ups. he told me he'd likely pass out. I said "natural anesthesia! you'll wake up and its over!" 😳

The amount of times that I’ve said “do you want the lights on or off?” To people I know are effin blind, is alarming. 😆😆
