@conscious.app: Support these ethical women-owned brands that never sold to a corporate giant. Jan ’n June Anna Bronowski and Juliana Holtzheimer founded German brand Jan ’n June and still own it with no investors. Its clothes are made in Portugal and Poland from certified organic and recycled fabrics, listing the country behind each production step. Eileen Fisher Eileen Fisher started her brand in 1984 with $350, and her employees now own 40% of it and share in its profits each year. Her Renew program takes back worn Eileen Fisher clothes to resell or remake into new pieces. Proclaim Shobha Philips founded Proclaim in 2017 after she couldn't find nude underwear that matched her skin color. About 90% is made within 30 miles of Los Angeles, and its cutting scraps have gone into building insulation since 2017. Diaspora Co. Sana Javeri Kadri founded spice company Diaspora Co. and buys from farms in India and Sri Lanka, paying an average of four times the standard market price. About 35% of the company is set aside for farmers and employees. By Rosie Jane Rosie Jane Johnston started mixing perfumes at her kitchen table and still owns 100% of the brand, now sold at Sephora, after never taking investor money. Every product is made in-house in Los Angeles and never tested on animals. Ethical women-founded brands like these often go unnoticed next to corporate-owned names. A product label also won't tell you who owns a brand, whether it sold out, or how it really treats workers and the planet. Support ethical & women-owned.
