Today, he is being held at the Kenton County Detention Center, but he is not alone. He has the unwavering support of Leah and Ella, two young women who decided to share his story and make it go viral. Leah and Ella worked with Juan at a pizzeria. Since his arrest, they have not stopped fighting for him. They say it is difficult to continue their daily routines knowing that their friend is locked up. However, Juan, with his characteristic sense of humor, tells them during every video call that he is doing okay, even though he is in jail. According to the police report, Juan was initially arrested for driving too slowly and for not having a driver's license. Although the Fort Mitchell Police Department, where he was arrested, stated that it acted independently and denied cooperating with ICE, the reality at the Kenton County Detention Center is different. The jail maintains a contract with ICE under the controversial 287(g) program, which allows local law enforcement agencies to function as immigration authorities. Juan remains in custody. Although he has the option of voluntarily deporting himself, he continues to hold on to the hope of being released on bond. Throughout this difficult process, distance has not prevented his family from continuing to support him. Juan's daughter says: "My father has so much love, so many friends, coworkers, and his sister. I am so grateful to her. She is an angel that God sent to my father so that he could have someone there for him right now."
