I especially appreciate it when owners accommodate their reactive dog by walking them at times when there is less activity at parks or in the neighborhood and have proper leashes/harnesses for them. Reactive dogs deserve walks and love too

My small Pom is INSANELY reactive, I mean, shopping bags, wheel chairs, cains and most especially DOGS. We live in downtown area which makes it insanely hard to avoid dogs, I will turn around, cross the street, hide his vision behind cars etc. Most people know us by now and also avoid me, but there is just this ONE GUY. He walks back and forth on the same sidewalk in front with f my house I can’t even sneak in while he may turn the corner, he sees me and just casually slowly walks past me over and over. I would scream at him if my dog wasn’t already, seriously makes me tick

we currently don’t have an reactive dogs but we have in the past and i grew up with big dogs and a reactive dogs and my parents always told me to assume a dog doesn’t like people or dogs unless you hear otherwise from the owners because your better to be sad you didn’t get to pet the dog rather than stressing the dog out or getting bit!

i do say hi to the other person but then i tell them my dog is reactive and they completely ignore me and walk closer and i try to avoid taking my dogs out when others are

I have a reactive gsd. We are making progress every day. It’s part genetics and part being attacked as a puppy. He’s rebounded a lot from now so it’s mostly him being suspicious/wary. We are working on it!!

The best way to do that is to always give people with dogs space. Reactive or not, animals need space. I hate when people see you engaging your dogs and need to be in the same 5 foot space. Always redirect, always give people space. I wish that would become common courtesy.

I have a reactive dog too. Luckily she is small enough that when we are near dogs I can easily pick her up and put her down when we are far away. She isn’t aggressive towards people just other dogs.
