As an avid reader and someone who often reads a dictionary/thesaurus just for fun and to find new words, I hate when ppl take words that are obviously uncommon and try to act like people are stupid for not knowing them. Milquetoast is an uncommon word, no duh people don’t know it.

I’m tired of people thinking words 3/4th of us have obviously never heard before suddenly makes us “illiterate” 😭 Like no babe, it’s most like there’s millions of words in the English dictionary and we haven’t heard them

There are over 150k active words in the English language. Realistically we can’t know them all, not to mention it is a fairly new term.

I have no idea what milquetoast is, but I do know what it means in regular conversation and I think that’s more important.

I know it’s an uncommon word, however, if you read in schools or outside of it a lot it not an uncommon word. I’ve said the word aerial in a sentence and people thought I meant the little mermaid. Somethings are straight up context clues

I used the word dichotomy and the person told me I need to dumb down my words. Same woman who wondered what juxtaposition was. Sorry those 2 words I use a lot! I like the sound of them.
