In my defense, my crashout was about someone reviewing a Broadway show and performance by their cast recording & I pay for all my tix (for the most part) and no one’s paying me to do it. I think anyone can review ANYTHING - it’s a great way to practice critical thinking and interpreting art, but just say what you’re reviewing and review it as such. “This OBC gives me the impression that this part of the storyline isn’t as strong as I think it should be” > “I’d like to complain about x show because this OBC makes it clear that the Broadway performances & book scenes bad.”

theater bootlegs are such a non issue because for most people there is LITERALLY no other way to see a show. a show is fixed in location and time and that's simply never going to work out for the vast majority of people. should i have told my drama school professors not to show us the peter brook midsummer nights dream because it wouldn't be the same as seeing it in a theater?? they'd laugh you out of the room saying it's essential to your education and what are you gonna do go back in time? people get it when it benefits them, they just have trouble when they are imagining a $200 ticket going unsold that would have lined their own pockets. but they were never getting that money because that person was physically incapable of making it to the show!

The classism behind specifically the bootleg debate is frustrating. I live in Missouri and cannot afford to travel to NYC regardless of whether there's a bootleg. No one is missing out on any money by me watching a bootleg. Also, pursuing theatre as a performer right now probably means you come from a place a financial privilege to begin with.

Heavy on those hotel prices. It’s the only thing that has kept me from getting to the city to see the countless things I’ve wanted to see in the past couple years. You can find a cheap flight, the show ticket price I can justify, I lived there for 12 years so I know how to commute and eat out on a tight budget, but then add $1k on top of that for the hotel… oooop the trip no longer makes sense financially. 🙃
