The big market teams tanked on purpose. Look at the Dodgers, Cubs, Yankees and RedSox. Its real suspicious the all fell off as hard as they did the last month of the season. As soon as September hit they looked like they were last place teams.

There does need to be a salary cap. Payroll and winning is correlated over time, not a single season. 13 of the last 15 world series winners were in the top 10 in payroll. 24 of the last 25 world series winners were in the top 15 in payroll. 1 season doesn’t mean anything.
