I’m making over $1,000 a day offshore… so come spend one day with me.” 💰🌊 This is what a normal day can look like when you work on an offshore oil rig. This supply vessel just arrived with food and other supplies, so one of the first jobs is getting everything unloaded and safely moved onto the platform. After that, it's time for some general work around the rig. Today I'm working as a roustabout — one of the roles people often look at as an entry point into offshore work. You're helping with things like cargo, equipment, cleaning, maintenance support, and keeping the operation running smoothly. And yes, the days are long. A typical offshore shift can be 12 hours, so you definitely earn your time off. Look at the size of this place. When you're standing on an offshore rig for the first time, it's easy to forget just how massive these structures can be. Some installations even have bridges connecting different facilities, making the whole operation feel like a small city sitting in the middle of the ocean. Then comes one of my favorite parts — food. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks… offshore catering teams can be serving hundreds of workers every day. And while you're onboard, accommodation and meals are commonly provided as part of the offshore arrangement. This is my room. And here's the bathroom. Honestly, I can't complain. Depending on the installation, you can also have access to gyms, recreation areas, common rooms, and other facilities during your downtime. And transportation to and from the installation, including helicopter travel, is typically arranged by the operator when required. Now let's talk about the money. If you're making $1,000 a day, 14 days at that rate would be $14,000 gross before taxes and deductions. But don't assume every offshore worker makes $1,000 a day. Pay varies massively depending on your role, experience, qualifications, employer, location, overtime, and contract. And if you're working a 14-on, 14-off rotation, that can give you roughly half the year away from work — although rotations vary. That's the real trade-off: Long, demanding days offshore… in exchange for extended time off at home. Would you actually do this job?
